Dow Jones Newswires: New Zealand to end isolation requirement for vaccinated travelers

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — Travelers to New Zealand will no longer be required to isolate on arrival, the government said Monday, as cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 surge inside the country.

The change in policy applies to travelers who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and takes effect Thursday, according to a government statement.

Currently, only New Zealanders in Australia can travel to New Zealand. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the government will soon decide on speeding up the overall reopening of the border, which stretches out to October under present plans.

New Zealand’s omicron infections have reached nearly 15,000 a day, meaning there is a greater risk of contracting the virus within the community than there is from travelers.
